Fatigue

Long term fatigue is known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). It is also known as ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis) which means muscle pain and inflammation of the brain and spinal cord.

Symptoms include: un-refreshing sleep, severe mental and physical exhaustion, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, and impairment of memory and concentration.

It is not clear what causes CFS but it has been linked to dysfunction of the immune system. Western medicine is unable to cure CFS – it eases the symptoms. Anyone can get CFS. The severity of CFS can range from mild to extremely severe. Those with severe CFS are unable to carry out daily tasks and need to remain in bed most of the time.

There is no exact comparison to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in TCM, which characterises all illnesses as imbalances of Ying and Yang (body harmony and balance) and poor circulation of Qi (vital energy).

Chinese Medicine is extremely effective in treating the differing underlying elements of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome without any side effects.

In establishing the underlying imbalances which are causing your fatigue and related symptoms, the GinSen Practitioner will use classic TCM diagnostic techniques. This will include consideration of your physical, emotional and mental condition as well as your medical history.

They will prescribe a customised course of treatment which will treat the underlying cause of your fatigue as well as alleviate your symptoms. A typical course of treatment is likely to consist of one or more Acupuncture sessions each week and herbal tea to be taken daily.

The duration of treatment will depend on the severity of the underlying condition and can take from several weeks to several months. However, you should notice an improvement in your energy levels in the initial stages of treatment.
