Acupuncture for Infertility
How can Acupuncture help?
Traditional Chinese Medicine offers a range of natural drug free treatments to boost fertility, the most well known being Acupuncture which dates back over 3,000 years. But did you know it can be combined with Western medicine to be used in conjunction with treatments like IVF? Here are some of the ways modern Acupuncture can be used to treat a range of fertility issues.
Acupuncture and IVF
Often IVF success rates are higher for women who have acupuncture while undergoing IVF. Acupuncture can also be used to reduce some the side effects of the hormone medications that are prescribed during IVF treatment.
A study published in ‘Reproductive and Biomedicine Journal’ by Bart Fauser, found Acupuncture helped to increase the success of IVF patients. Overall, the study found that IVF in conjuction with Acupuncture was associated with greater odds of success in both donor and non-donor cycles.
Acupuncture for conception
There are lots of factors that can affect your chances of conceiving and many of them can be addressed with Acupuncture. Things like stress can affect your body functions and menstrual cycle. But Acupuncture can be used to reduce stress and improve blood flow for helping ease the psychological factors and help boost your reproductive system.
Acupuncture for support during Pregnancy
Harnessing Acupuncture to help reduce stress and fatigue can help alleviate symptoms of morning sickness during the early stages of a pregnancy, reduce risk of complications at any stage and help with labour and birthing.
A recent study of 167 women found that Acupuncture once per week during pregnancy promoted an efficient labour with less medical intervention, as well as decreased labour time and reduced caesarean section rate. The women received fewer epidurals and there was less need for the use of the drug oxytosin to speed up contractions.
