Siberian ginseng is a plant native to south-eastern Russia, northern China, Korea, and Japan, the root of which is commonly used in Chinese Traditional Medicine. Also known as eleuthero as well as myriad other names, it is an ‘adaptogen’ that increases the body’s strength and resistance to stress.

This study found that a small group of athletically trained males improved their endurance capacity and cardiovascular functions by taking controlled eleuthero supplements over an eight-week period. Although a small study, the results were compelling.

A study discovered that Siberian ginseng has potent anti-edema benefits by promoting lymphatic function. Edema is caused by excess fluid that is trapped in your body’s tissues and can affect any part of your body, though it’s most commonly found in your arms and legs. Dampness and water retention are important aspects of TCM, and Siberian ginseng is thought to have a positive impact on these conditions.

Eleuthero and eleutherosides extracts are responsible for binding to estrogen receptor sites. As such, eleuthero is thought to reduce the negative effects of estrogen withdrawal in women experiencing menopause.
