Skin Disorder Treatment

Skin disorders are very common and the discomfort of conditions like Acne, Eczema and Psoriasis is frequently accompanied by pain, itching and distress over their appearance.

The treatment of skin conditions is a recognised specialisation within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and research confirms that TCM is able to resolve both acute and chronic skin conditions.

Our Diagnosis

In making the diagnosis we:

  • Take Your Medical hostory, observe your physical condition and consider the onset, duration and frequency of the skin condition.
  • Look at influences on the symptoms, eg: stress, your emotional state, temperature, food and drink
  • Consider other factors such as imbalances in your body, digestion, energy, sleep, and the immune system.

Our treatments for Skin Disorders involve:

  • Strengthening the immune system to decrease sensitivity to external or environmental factors
  • Balancing the body and treating the internal imbalances that are contributing to or causing the disorder
  • Releasing toxins, leading to the elimination of the external symptoms of the skin disorder
  • Nourishment and repair of the damaged skin.

Each of our treatments plans are unique to our clients and their Skin Condition.

Our treatment plans will involve all, or some combination of the following:

  • Herbal medicine taken daily
  • Acupuncture
  • Application of some ointments or liniments
  • Dietary and life style advice

Treatment is likely to last for several weeks and can take longer to clear severe cases of long duration. Over 90% of GinSen’s clients are completely cured of their skin condition. The remainder show marked improvement. The skin lesions are well improved and other symptoms have decreased markedly.

Disclaimer & Important Information

We can’t guarantee the treatment result, as the symptoms of conditions are unpredictable and vary greatly from person to person. The treatment length and recovery time also varies for individual. GinSen’s specialists will discuss your care before carrying out the treatment, and the treatment will be designed to meet your individual needs.

Eczema Treatment

Eczema Treatment

Eczema is a common, chronic, skin disorder. Atopic eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is the most common form. Symptoms include itchy, dry and red skin. It commonly occurs :

  • behind the knees
  • the inside of the elbows
  • on the side of the neck
  • around the eyes and ears

Eczema has a significant impact on the lives of those who suffer severely. It is usual to have periods when symptoms are mild, followed by flare-ups. When severe it can become: extremely itchy, red, hot, scaly, wet, weeping and swollen.

Triggers for eczema include:

  • Allergens such as dust, pet fur, pollen.
  • Foods such as eggs, nuts, soya and wheat.
  • Factors such as: stress, sweating, soaps and cold weather.

Who is at Risk?

Up to two in 10 children and one in 10 adults in the UK have atopic eczema. Childhood eczema usually clears by the mid-teenage years. The cause is not known. Western medicine has no cure but can help control the symptoms. For severe sufferers and those unresponsive to emollients or steroid creams, some of the medications used have side effects.

How Traditional Chinese Medicine Views Eczema

Although the symptoms manifest on the skin, TCM believes eczema always reflects an internal problem. The severity of the symptoms depends on the type of imbalance causing the condition.

How Traditional Chinese Medicine Treats Eczema

TCM has a long track record of safely and successfully treating the internal problems causing eczema, causing it to go into remission. Diagnosis is based on detailed observation of your symptoms. This allows your Practitioner to identify the imbalance which is the root cause of your condition.

Treatment consists of acupuncture and herbal medicine. It works by:

  • Strengthening the immune system to decrease sensitivity to external hazards
  • Balancing the internal organ systems and correcting imbalances
  • Releasing toxins from the skin to eliminate the itchy, red rash
  • Nourishing and repairing damaged skin

How fast will you see results?

Results depend on the severity of condition. The longer you have suffered from eczema the longer the period of treatment. Most patients notice visual changes within 1 – 4 weeks. Severe cases can take several months to clear. Persistence with treatment is key to success

Psoriasis Treatment

Psoriasis Treatment

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder which can occur on any part of the body but is most commonly found on the elbows, knees, lower back and scalp. About 90% of those who have psoriasis suffer from plaque psoriasis. It is characterized by raised, inflamed, red lesions covered by a silvery white scale. The plaques can be itchy, sore or both. In severe cases, the skin around the joints may crack and bleed.

Psoriasis has a significant impact on the lives of those whose symptoms are severe. Most people go through cycles, suffering for weeks or months at a time before it eases or stops. It affects around 2% of people in the UK. It can start at any age.

Who is at Risk?

It is not yet understand why Psoriasis occurs. It is considered to be an auto-immune condition which has a genetic element. Triggers include:

  • Physical illness, including throat infections
  • Emotional Stress
  • Injury to the skin, including sunburn
  • Use of certain medications
      • Changes in the climate

Western medicine has no cure for Psoriasis but treatments can improve symptoms and the appearance of the affected skin patches.

Treating Psoriasis with Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine has treated psoriasis successfully for centuries with herbal medicine and acupuncture. It does not cure Psoriasis but causes it to go into permanent remission. Almost all patients will experience significant improvement in their condition.

Diagnosis is based on detailed observation of your condition. Each person will manifest variations in symptoms. These variations give your Practitioner important information about the root cause of your illness. Your Practitioner will also seek to gain a detailed understanding of your lifestyle, diet, causes of stress, and factors which trigger your psoriasis.

Once a diagnosis is made, you will be prescribed a customised herbal medicine formula to be taken orally, a herbal remedy to apply to the skin, and acupuncture. You will also receive life style advice.

How fast will you see results?

Results depend on the severity of condition. Over 90% patients are symptom-free after two to three months of treatment.

Acne Treatment

Acne Treatment

Acne is a common condition that causes spots to develop on the skin, usually on the face, back and chest. The spots range from blackheads and whiteheads which are often mild, to inflamed pustules and cysts, which can be severe, long lasting and lead to scarring. Western medicine believes the spots and lesions form due to an overproduction of sebum, irritation of hair follicles due to irregular shedding of skin cells, and an overgrowth of bacteria. The cause of acne is not known to Western science. Treatments with conventional medicines can control acne, but not cure it.

How Traditional Chinese Medicine Views Acne

Despite the fact that acne manifests on the skin, TCM considers it to be a condition that originates within the body and believes there are at least six different root causes of acne. The severity of the symptoms depends on the type of body imbalance causing the condition. These imbalances are often complicated further by hormone fluctuations, stress and poor diet.

How Traditional Chinese Medicine Treats Acne

Acne is a condition for which Chinese medicine is extremely effective. Your Practitioner will identify the body imbalance which is causing your acne and prescribe a personalised course of acupuncture, herbal medicine and herbal ointment. The diagnosis will be based on  careful inspection of the exterior skin condition, the type of eruption, skin colour, information gained on diet, factors which affect the symptoms, the onset and duration of the condition along with information on digestion, energy, emotions, sleep, and the  immune system.   You will also receive nutritional advice as TCM considers that poor diet can be a contributory factor to the development of acne.   Dietary recommendations for acne sufferers include eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, drinking sufficient amounts of water, and staying away from foods which may exacerbate the condition such as processed, spicy, greasy, sweet and fried foods.

What To Expect

Most people experience a reduction of inflammation, swelling, new lesions and reduced oiliness within three weeks.   The length of time of time taken for the condition to be resolved depends on the type of acne  – some conditions resolve much faster than others.  As a general rule, the longer the condition has been present, the longer it takes to resolve.
