What is Xiao Feng San?

The application and usage of Alternative Medicine in the Chinese culture have been around for a long time. One of such miraculous herbal compositions is the Xiao Feng San. Chinese Medicine experts recommend Xiao Feng San for skin conditions. It is a popular concoction that is being utilized for promoting healthy, clear, and disease-free skin.

Xiao Feng San means ‘eliminate wind.'

In the literal meaning, Xiao Feng San means ‘eliminate wind.' This is a justified meaning for Xiao Feng San deals with eliminating the distressing or irritating stimuli that the body feels, rather than eliminating the virus and bacteria. The ‘wind’ refers to the different climatic fluctuations that disturb the skin and manifest their effects in various skin lesions. These climatic conditions include:

  • Wind,
  • Cold,
  • Summer heat,
  • Dampness,
  • Dryness,
  • Heat

Through the application of Xiao Feng San, the unlikely and unwanted red, pruritic, itchy, and discharging skin lesions may heal naturally.

The Association Between Xiao Feng San and Skin

For centuries, the Chinese have adopted a holistic approach towards treating diseases and curing the patients of their illness.

Sprouting from intensive studies of traditional Chinese medicine, Xiao Feng San for skin lesions has shown to be an effective treatment. Chinese medicine deeply explains and elaborates the formation of these lesions in the first palace.

According to the studies, there is already a pre-existing ‘damp-heat present inside the skin. In an instance of a breach in the skin layers, external wind-dampness or the wind-heat finds a way to enter the skin. Once it has gotten inside the skin, it cannot find its way both outside the skin or towards the inner side to drain itself, so it stays there as it is as a ‘wind toxin. ‘After some time, this wind toxin changes into a red, itchy, and pus-discharging vesicle. This blister or lesion ultimately becomes a cause of great inconvenience to the person.

To combat these effects and to deal with these uncomfortable lesions, different compositions and formulations of Xiao Feng San for skin conditions are employed and put to their appropriate use to eliminate the lesion.

Xiao Feng San is composed of different formulations put together based on their various uses. These altered formulations then help in countering several skin conditions.

Some of the popularly used concoctions and uses of Xia Feng San are:

Sometimes, due to several reasons, there might be ensuing inflammation present inside the body. It may occur due to an underlying disease or a reaction of the body to any offending agent. In any of these cases, the body is inflamed and ‘hot.’ The body often reacts in the form of developing pustules and vesicles on the skin.

In these conditions, the application of Xiao Feng San is of great value for eliminating the heat toxin that contributes to the development of these vesicles.

Eliminating Heat Toxins:

Herbs Used: Gan Cao (Liquorice), Fang Feng, Shen Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae)

According to Chinese statistics, Xiao Feng San stands out as one of the most commonly prescribed preparations for urticaria.

This is because all the specified herbal ingredients that are contained in this formula have significant anti-inflammatory properties. They decrease the inflammatory response that is increased multiple folds during urticaria and provide ease and relief to the suffering person.

Herbs Used: Jing Jie, Fang Feng, Niu Bang Zi

Eczema is a chronic condition that occurs when the skin has made contact with some allergen or general immunity function is low. The person may experiences severe itching. It is a highly inconvenient situation and does not wane off by itself.

However, when people tried Xiao Feng San during their episodes of eczema, it was found that it relieves itch. This was achieved by Xiao Feng San dispersing the ‘wind’ resent inside the skin.

The other herbs work to relieve the accumulated allergen inside the skin and then finally incorporate their cooling effect to feel relieved and at rest.

Conclusion:

The studies mentioned above show that Xiao Feng San has shown proven beneficial and practical impacts on several dermatological conditions. It helps in easing their symptoms, relieves the patient of his pain, and causes no significant adverse effects on the skin or health of the person.
